Welcome to our service today. It is great to have you here and we would love to invite you to stay after the service and join us for tea and coffee and also to stay on for the shared lunch. There will be plenty of food!
If we are to fully grasp the power of love, we must first define it. What is love? As we turn to the Bible we read in the well known passage in 1 Cor 13 that ‘Love is patient, kind, does not envy or boast, is not arrogant or rude, doesn’t insist on its own way, is not irritable or resentful……’ etc. We also read that the first and greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and the second is to love our neighbour as ourself. So how are we to love God? In part, this includes by loving others!
What does this look like? We are to follow the example of Jesus Himself. We visit the sick and afflicted, we help the poor, feed the hungry, care for the orphans and widows, strengthen the weak, serve others, sacrifice for each other, put others’ needs above our own and are kind, gentle and compassionate. Wow! What a list! But this is nothing in comparison to how God showed His great love for us when He sacrificed His own Son on the cross for each one of us. What a mighty God we serve!
With love & blessings
