In Genesis we read that God tested Abraham when he asked him to sacrifice his son Isaac. We then read that early the next morning Abraham got up to go and do just that. I can imagine he didn’t get much sleep that night! Abraham would have been wrestling with the thought of giving up his son or if not, being disobedient to God. What a choice he had to make. God may not call us to make such difficult decisions – although he may, and it might certainly feel like that at times. When He does what do or will we choose? He calls us to sacrifice everything we have and when something stands in the way of us and God He will test us. But the outcome of being obedient and doing what He asks us to do is better than we could ever ask for – it was in that place that God promised Abraham He would provide for him. Abraham didn’t have to go through with the sacrifice but God wanted to see if he was willing in his heart. Are there things that God is asking us to sacrifice in order that nothing stands between us and God? If there are then let’s not waste time in doing so in order that God may have us right where He wants us!
